Its bookings have already started at select dealerships for a token amount ranging between Rs 50,000 - Rs 1 lakh, contingent on the variant opted. Pronounced variants are already up for viewing on the Indian website and include the Option 719 Tramuntana, GS Trophy, and Triple Black.
Priced in between Rs 22 - 23 lakh (ex-showroom), the BMW R 1300 GS will offer a design upgrade from its predecessor with sleeker bodywork, a flatter fuel tank, a matrix LED headlight featuring an X-shaped design with daytime running lights, a split-seat layout, and a slimmer tail-section. The top-spec Tramuntana comes equipped with tubeless spoked rims while the other two make use of alloy wheels, but hold identical tyre sizes (120/70-R19 front and 170/60-R17 rear).
Underneath the upgraded bodywork of the BMW R 1300 GS lies a new sheet metal frame, and the rear features a tubular steel sub-frame that replaces the former die-cast aluminium unit. The suspension setup has been improved, with the bike featuring a new Telelever at the front and a Paralever setup at the rear, with both being sourced from EVO. Another notable inclusion is the electronically adjustable suspension allowing riders to adapt the spring preload and damping via the optional dynamics suspension (DSA). This feature also provides an adaptive ride height control, adjusting the bike's height automatically.
The new BMW R 1300 GS draws its power from BMW's most powerful series production boxer engine. Displacing 1,300cc, it churns out 144bhp at 7,750rpm and 149Nm of peak torque at 6,500rpm. The engine is mated to a 6-speed gearbox now positioned underneath, making it more compact than the previous models.
In terms of electronic aids and features, the BMW R 1300 GS does not disappoint. It offers a 6.5-inch colour TFT display, keyless ignition, a ride-off assistant, Full Integral ABS Pro, and four standard riding modes — Rain, Road, Eco, and Enduro. Depending on the chosen package (Pro and Riding Assistant), the bike can be equipped with added features. The Pro package offers three additional riding modes — Dynamic, Dynamic Pro, and Enduro Pro. On the other hand, the Riding Assistant package includes adaptive cruise control, active cruise control, lane change warning, and front collision warning.
Weighing 237kg with fuel, the BMW R 1300 GS is 12kg lighter than the R 1250 GS. Once launched in India, it will compete against the Honda Africa Twin, Harley-Davidson Pan-America 1250, Triumph Tiger 1200, and the Ducati Multistrada V4.
