Often referred to as 'Team Green', Kawasaki has unleashed its middle-weight powerhouse, with the introduction of the stunning new Ninja ZX-6R. The ZX-6R, which had been previously released and subsequently discontinued in India a few years ago, has made a triumphant return. It's clear that initially, Honda commanded the middle-weight four-cylinder motorcycle segment, thanks to its fully faired sportsbike, CBR650R and its street naked counterpart, CB650R. Kawasaki had originally offered the ZX-6R in India, but after its discontinued, the Ninja 650 became its solo fully-faired motorbike offering in the 600cc category.
Honda carved out a special niche offering the reasonably priced fully-faired 4-cylinder motorcycles in India. However, there was a period where Honda's larger bikes, of 500cc and above, saw zero sales for an extended period. Given this circumstances, Kawasaki decided to venture into the 4-cylinder motorcycle market in India with the release of models ZX-4R and ZX-6R.
In terms of aesthetics, the Kawasaki ZX-6R is available in two alluring colours: Metallic Graphite Grey and Lime Green. Its cutting-edge design is heavily inspired by its larger and more popular sibling, the ZX-10R. Features such as supersport styling, integrated central air intake, split LED headlights set-up, and a sizable windscreen designed for the rider's comfort and improved aerodynamics lend to its captivating allure.
The models multi-layered fairing promotes aerodynamic efficiency and effortlessly manages the heat flow, preventing overheating of the rider's legs. It also features a uniquely raised rear section that ends in a taillight designed to resemble a "ninja's tri-pointed shuriken". With 128 bhp of high power and an impressive 69 Nm of peak torque with a 12.9:1 compression ratio, its high-performance metrics are self-evident.
Other features included in the model are a 6-speed gearbox, a slipper clutch, a sealed chain, Kawasaki Traction Control (KRTC), power modes (Full/Low), and the Kawasaki Intelligent ABS (KIBS) and Kawasaki Quick Shifter (KQS). The 4.3-inch TFT display also offers ease of smartphone connectivity.
Lastly, the suspension setup comprises 41mm Showa Big Piston (SFF-BP) USD telescopic front forks and Uni-Trak gas-charged rear mono-shock. Both offer compression, rebound and preload adjustability. The bike is fitted with 17-inch alloy wheels wrapped in 120-70 front and 185-55 rear tyres, ensuring a smooth ride. The new ZX-6R, weighing in at a 198 kg has a 17L capacity fuel tank, making it a splendid addition to any motorcycling enthusiast’s collection.
