The automotive giant, Tata Motors, has announced the upcoming debut of the eagerly awaited Tata Sierra EV. Set to make its entry to the market in the Fiscal Year 2026, the electric offering is expected to be launched along with the inaugural model from Tata's premium EV brand, Avinya. The disclosure of the plans came during the company's investor day presentation.
The first look of Tata Sierra EV was given at the Auto Expo 2020, where it was unveiled as a concept vehicle, based on the platform of Altroz’s ALFA. The car comes in dimensions of 4,150mm by 1,820mm in length and width respectively, a height of 1,675mm, and a wheelbase measuring 2,450mm in length. A more advanced concept was introduced at the Auto Expo 2023, with a 5-door body that was completely different from the unique four-door design of the previous version.
Tata Motors has now given assurance about the launch of the Sierra EV, stating that it will be out in the market before March 2026. The electric vehicle is predicted to be designed on the brand’s Acti.EV architecture, something common to Punch EV and the soon-to-be-launched Harrier EV. The Sierra EV's built is likely going to rely on Tata’s Gen2 EV platform.
The Sierra EV will be borrowing some design elements from the original Sierra model from the 90s. The unique blunted rear-side windows, the square wheel arches, and the elevated monster are features taken from the original Sierra concept. These traits are predicted to be incorporated into the final product.
The FY2026 will also witness the release of the first model of Tata's Avinya EVs. Tata Passenger Electric Mobility’s chief commercial officer, Vivek Srivatsa, has confirmed that the Tata Avinya will be a premium all-electric brand with an entire family of cars and SUVs under its banner, rather than just one single vehicle. The Avinya lineup will be based on JLR’s EMA modular platform and will be adjusted at a local level to ensure affordability.
The details about the flagship Avinya model, including body style or specifications, remain a mystery for now. There's also uncertainty over whether Tata and Avinya will be independent brands. It is, however, known Tata’s forthcoming new plant in Tamil Nadu will host the Avinya production.
