Jeep Compass to Introduce More Affordable Diesel 2WD Automatic Variant

The Jeep Compass in India now offers only diesel, with automatics limited to 4x4 variants. An affordable 2WD diesel-auto variant is expected soon

Currently, the Jeep Compass line-up in India offers only diesel with the automatic gearbox limited to just the 4x4 variants. Because of the BS6 Stage II norms, the 1.4-litre turbo-petrol engine of Compass had been discontinued, leading to an increase in the starting price of Compass, particularly for the automatic variants which have a starting price over Rs 29 lakh (ex-showroom). The introduction of an affordable 2WD variant to the diesel-automatic line-up is expected to make the Compass SUV more attractive and accessible, primarily to customers who prefer the convenience of an automatic gearbox, but do not require the 4x4 hardware. There are also expectations of the Compass petrol model making a comeback in the future. jeep_compas The updated Compass will be available in five trim levels — Sport, Longitude, Longitude+, Limited, and Model S. The Sport trim is the entry-level model and will only be available with the diesel-manual powertrain. A new Compass Longitude variant will be added to the line-up offering both, the 2WD manual and the 9-speed automatic gearbox. This new variant will be the entry point to the Compass automatic range with sources suggesting it will be priced around Rs 27 lakh, on-road. The feature list for this model is yet to be disclosed. Following Longitude, the Longitude+ trim will feature a panoramic sunroof and a wireless charger in addition to all the features of the Longitude trim. Above that will be the Limited trim which will also include a new Black Shark edition featuring an all-black interior and black alloy wheels. jeep_compas Lastly, the Model S will remain at the top-of-the-line and will be available in the 2WD automatic form, along with the pre-existing 4WD automatic variants. Also, all trim levels will get a new alloy wheel design. Furthermore, a new chrome grille will be accessible on the Limited and Model S trims. Dealers have already started accepting unofficial bookings for the updated Compass line-up. More details are forthcoming at the launch. There is a likelihood of deliveries commencing by the end of this month or early next month.
