Auto-industry insight reveals Hyundai is set to intensify its presence in India's emerging EV market. Until now, the South Korean automaker has primarily focused on premium segments with models like the Kona and Ioniq 5 EV. However, come 2025, Hyundai is planning a foray into the mass-market EV segment in India with the introduction of the Creta EV.
This forthcoming model of the Korean car maker was spied during testing, providing a glimpse of its unique design elements which set it apart from its internal combustion engine (ICE) counterpart. It is noted that the Creta EV will borrow some elements from the upcoming Creta facelift, which is scheduled to be unveiled on January 16, 2023.
Details about the SUV’s powertrain and battery pack are already trickling in from reliable sources. It’s been revealed that the Creta EV will feature a 45kWh battery pack, supplied by LG Chem, Hyundai’s go-to provider for lithium-ion battery packs. The blueprint for the Creta EV will be based on the standard ICE-powered Creta, but with certain adaptations.
However, with a smaller battery pack, the Creta EV will face competition from rivals - the MG ZS EV and Maruti's future model, the eVX. While the former is equipped with a more robust 50.3kWh battery, the latter is speculated to be launched with two battery pack options – a standard 48kWh variant and a superior 60kWh variant. Nevertheless, in comparison to the Nexon EV’s 40.5kWh battery for its long-range variant, the Creta EV still has a larger battery pack.
The Creta EV's electric drivetrain will be provided by the entry-level Kona EV, which is available in certain overseas markets. It will reportedly be equipped with a single motor on the front axle offering around 138hp of power and 255Nm of torque.
Regarding its launch timeline and competitive positioning, the Hyundai Creta EV is predicted to make its international debut in the latter half of 2024, with pricing details likely to be disclosed in early 2025. Pitted against the MG ZS EV and Maruti eVX, Hyundai's Creta EV will be posed as a direct competitor in the rapidly growing EV market, with only the latter being an entirely EV-born model.

Mahindra has recently removed all 5-seater variants of its flagship SUV, the XUV700, from its official website. This move suggests a strategic shift towards exclusively offering 6- and 7-seater configurations, aligning with the brand's focus on family-oriented and premium SUV segments.
Transition to 6- and 7-Seater Configurations
Previously, the XUV700 was available in multiple seating configurations, including 5-seater options across MX, AX5, and AX5S trims. With the recent update, these variants have been delisted, and the SUV is now offered solely in 6- and 7-seater layouts. The 6-seater configuration is available in the higher AX7 and AX7 L trims, including the Ebony Edition, while the 7-seater setup spans across various trims, providing a range of options for larger families and those seeking additional space.
Revised Pricing Structure
The removal of the 5-seater variants has led to a revision in the XUV700's pricing. The base price now starts at ₹14.49 lakh (ex-showroom) for the petrol variant and ₹14.99 lakh for the diesel variant. These prices are for the 7-seater MX trims. Previously, the entry-level 5-seater MX petrol manual variant was priced at ₹13.99 lakh (ex-showroom), indicating a ₹50,000 increase in the starting price.
Powertrain and Features
The XUV700 continues to offer robust powertrain options:
2.0L Turbo Petrol Engine: Delivers up to 200 bhp and 380 Nm of torque.
2.2L Turbo Diesel Engine: Produces up to 185 bhp and 450 Nm of torque.
Both engines are available with 6-speed manual and 6-speed torque converter automatic transmissions. The SUV maintains its array of features, including advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS), panoramic sunroof, dual HD superscreen, and premium interior finishes, ensuring a comfortable and tech-savvy driving experience.
Market Positioning and Competition
With the discontinuation of the 5-seater variants, the XUV700 positions itself more firmly in the premium SUV segment, directly competing with models like the Tata Safari and MG Hector Plus, both of which offer 6- and 7-seater configurations. This strategic move may help Mahindra streamline its offerings and focus on segments with higher demand and profitability.

Lamborghini is strategically navigating the electric vehicle (EV) landscape, prioritizing excellence over haste. In a recent interview with Autocar India, Francesco Scardaoni, Lamborghini's Asia Pacific Region Director, emphasized the brand's commitment to delivering a superior EV experience:
“The idea was never to be the first ones, but to be the best one when it comes to EVs."
Anticipated Launch Timeline
Lamborghini's first fully electric vehicle is projected to debut by the end of the decade. This timeline aligns with the company's electrification strategy, "Direzione Cor Tauri," which focuses on introducing EVs when market readiness and technological maturity converge.
First EV Model: A 2+2 Grand Tourer
The inaugural Lamborghini EV will be a 2+2 grand tourer, offering a blend of performance and practicality. This model aims to cater to enthusiasts seeking Lamborghini's signature driving dynamics in an electric format.
Current Focus on Hybridization
While the EV is in development, Lamborghini continues to invest in hybrid technology. The recent launch of the Temerario, a plug-in hybrid supercar, exemplifies this commitment. Scardaoni notes that hybridization enhances performance without compromising driving pleasure:
“For us, hybridization has no drawbacks; it means adding features and capabilities to the car—more power, more drivability and agility, and less emissions.”
The Temerario's advanced torque vectoring system, utilizing dual electric motors on the front axle, delivers precise handling and a natural driving feel.
Indian Market Outlook
Lamborghini's hybrid models have garnered significant interest in India. The Revuelto, another hybrid offering, has been sold out for over two years, indicating strong demand. Scardaoni anticipates continued growth in the Indian market, building on the record 113 vehicles delivered in 2024.
