Moving forward, Bajaj plans to adopt a multi-dimensional approach to target the 125cc+ motorcycle segment and the rapidly evolving market for electric two-wheelers. Notably, the company is also embarking on the creation of an innovative CNG bike.
Foremost among the new releases is the Pulsar NS400, slated to be the largest Pulsar model to date. As previously announced, Bajaj aims to roll out six new Pulsar bikes by March 2024, including revised versions of the N150, N160, N250, and F250 models. The development platform for the NS400 has not been disclosed and could incorporate the existing Dominar 400 or Triumph Speed 400 platforms, or alternatively, an entirely new platform.
Bajaj continues to concentrate its energies on the 125cc+ motorcycle segment, which has proven to be hugely successful for the brand. During the October-December 2023 period, the introduction of Bajaj's 125cc range saw an impressive growth of three times the industry average, increasing its market share to 31 percent. Similarly, Bajaj’s overall growth in the domestic motorcycle segment in the same period was double that of the industry average.
The beloved Chetak range will also see additions, with a new model expected to hit the market soon. The new Chetak model could be a high-end lifestyle product or a budget-friendly scooter with a price tag under Rs 1 lakh, though the latter is yet to be confirmed. The new model will join the Chetak Urbane and Premium variants, priced at Rs 1.15 lakh and Rs 1.35 lakh, respectively.
Sales for the Chetak range have been robust, with its market share increasing from 5% to 14% in about a year. Bajaj’s sale of electric scooters is currently around 10,000 units, up significantly from the 3k to 4k units at the start of the fiscal year. By March 2024, Bajaj aims to increase this even further, targeting 15,000 units sold per month.
An exciting announcement is the CNG-powered bike from Bajaj, arriving in the next fiscal year. The bike is expected to truly disrupt the market if it is made accessible at an affordable price. Benefits include lower operating costs and no concerns over fuel theft, while meeting stringent emission norms should also be easier.
Bajaj will also be enhancing production of Triumph bikes in response to increased demand for the Triumph Speed 400 and Scrambler 400 X, both domestically and internationally. As of now, Bajaj produces around 10,000 units per month, with plans to increase this to as many as 30,000 units per month by the first half of the new fiscal year. Moreover, the company will double the number of retail outlets for the Triumph Speed 400 and Scrambler 400 X, and these bikes are currently available in 41 cities across India.
