Earlier this year, news broke that pictures of the Volkswagen Tayron had been leaked from China. These images provided a first look into the SUV's interior, offering a peek into what exactly we can expect from this seven-seater SUV. The Tayron is essentially a lengthened version of the latest-gen Tiguan, first being marketed as the Tiguan L Pro in China before it moves to India in 2025.
The inside of the Tayron is highly similar to the Tiguan as the latter forms the basis of its design. The dashboard bears a minimalist look that is emphasized by screens. A total of three screens are present including the primary infotainment system, the digital instrument cluster, and one on the passenger side of the dashboard. The infotainment screen features a backlit slider controller at the bottom, akin to the Tiguan. All three screens are expected to run on VW’s latest MIB4 digital interface.
Notable features of the Tayron include distinctive AC vents at the sides, a neatly designed centre console with a wireless charging pad, a rotary dial for the drive selector, audio controls, and two cupholders. There’s also a large storage area under the centre console, similar to what is typically observed in born EVs. Despite a scarcity of physical controls, several traditional buttons and switches can be found on the steering wheel.
The cabin embodies an upscale feel, furnished with soft-touch materials, blue-piped contrast stitching, and sports seats, like on the ‘R’ version in the pictured images. However, these images didn’t provide us a glimpse of the seven-seater layout or the spaciousness of either the second or third rows. Yet, considering the standard Tiguan has more space than its predecessor, it's fair to anticipate that the Tayron will be more spacious than the Tiguan AllSpace.
The Tayron utilizes Volkswagen’s new MQB EVO platform, the same platform also adopted by models like the new Skoda Kodiaq and other multiple VW Group models. The SUV, designed for the Chinese market, incorporates a 2.0-litre turbo-petrol with various power outputs, while a 2.0-litre diesel is also foreseen to be available in some markets. All powertrains will be equipped with a 48V mild-hybrid setup and offer a choice of either 4WD or 2WD.
Along with this, Volkswagen will also have two plug-in hybrids on offer, both with an electric-only range exceeding 100km and DC fast charging capability. The PHEVs will implement a 1.5-litre petrol engine in combination with an electric motor, a 19.7kWh battery pack, and a 6-speed DSG gearbox. These models will only have 2WD. It is most likely that the Tayron in India will incorporate the 2.0-litre petrol engine, with diesel and PHEV powertrain options not being expected.

BYD has recently unveiled teaser images of its upcoming e7 sedan, suggesting it may serve as a more affordable counterpart to the existing Seal sedan. The e7 adopts BYD's Ocean design language but incorporates cost-effective features aimed at enhancing accessibility for a broader range of consumers
Design and Features
The e7's design closely mirrors that of the Seal sedan, featuring traditional door handles in place of the Seal's flush-mounted ones, and offering optional steel wheels instead of the Seal's standard 19-inch dual-tone alloys. Additionally, buyers can choose between configurations with or without a sunroof, and select optional features such as a rear camera and an interior rearview mirror (IRVM), indicating a focus on affordability.
Dimensions and Performance
According to regulatory filings with China's Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT), the e7 measures 4,780 mm in length, 1,900 mm in width, and 1,515 mm in height, with a wheelbase of 2,820 mm. This positions it closely to the Seal sedan's dimensions. The e7 is equipped with a single front-mounted electric motor producing 100 kW (136 PS), enabling a top speed of 150 km/h. Battery options include a 48-kWh lithium iron phosphate (LFP) pack offering a range of 450 km, and a 57.6-kWh pack extending the range to 520 km, based on CLTC standards.
Market Positioning
The e7's streamlined features and modest performance specifications suggest that BYD aims to position this model as an economical electric vehicle, potentially targeting taxi operators and ride-hailing services. This strategy aligns with BYD's previous offerings, such as the e2 hatchback and its sedan counterpart, the e3, both of which were tailored for similar markets before their discontinuation in China.
As BYD continues to expand its electric vehicle lineup, the e7 sedan appears poised to offer a cost-effective solution for consumers seeking sustainable transportation options. Whether this model will be introduced to markets outside of China, including India, remains to be seen.

In a groundbreaking move within the electric vehicle (EV) industry, BYD has unveiled its flagship innovation, the Super e-Platform. This state-of-the-art platform is a major leap forward, featuring advanced technologies such as ultra-fast charging capabilities and an impressive new motor design.
Technological Advancements
The Super e-Platform is equipped with cutting-edge technological upgrades that redefine charging efficiency and motor performance. Notably, the flash-charging batteries and innovative 30,000rpm motor are the highlights of this platform. These batteries benefit from advanced silicon carbide (SiC) power chips, allowing for unprecedented charging speeds of up to 1,000kW (or 1 MW). This rapid charging capability is twice as fast as Tesla’s v4 supercharger, which peaks at 500kW for electric vehicles.
Charging Efficiency
The efficiency of these new chargers is astonishing, as they can provide a 10C charging speed, enabling vehicles to gain a 2km range in just one second. Effectively, this means that an EV can be charged with a 400km range in a mere five minutes, a timeframe comparable to refueling an internal combustion engine (ICE) vehicle. BYD plans to roll out 4,000 such superchargers across China, significantly enhancing the country's EV infrastructure.
Performance Improvements
The Super e-Platform doesn't only excel in charging speeds; it also boosts vehicle performance. The integrated single-module, single-platform motor is designed to deliver a top speed of over 300km/h. Initially, this breakthrough motor will be available in the Han-L and Tang-L models, which are now open for pre-orders in China. This motor offers enhanced power and efficiency despite being more compact.
Prospects in India
Evangelizing EV adoption in India, BYD's advanced technologies address some of the primary challenges hindering widespread EV use, such as limited charging infrastructure and concerns surrounding fast charging in high-temperature conditions. Although these technologies are still emerging, the developments made by BYD are paving the way for technological advancements within India and beyond. Additionally, BYD has expanded its footprint in India with the release of models like the Sealion 7 and the updated Atto 3. The Atto 3 offers two battery variants, providing ARAI-claimed ranges of 468km and 521km, priced from Rs. 24.99 lakh.
Conclusion
The introduction of the Super e-Platform marks a significant milestone in EV technology, promising to set new standards for both charging speed and motor performance. As BYD continues to drive innovation in this field, its developments are likely to inspire further progress in other markets, including India.
