Ather Energy, a renowned Indian electric vehicle manufacturer, has started the delivery of its latest electric vehicle, 450 Apex, in March as formerly stated. The scooter, launched in India on January 6, 2024, carries a price tag of Rs 1.89 lakh. Standing as the most costly model ever offered by Ather, the 450 Apex is even higher-priced than the top-tier Ather 450X with a 3.7kWh battery. It's worth noting that the new model, which is a limited edition, will be manufactured only till October 2024 keeping the demand in consideration.
The Ather 450 Apex is equipped with the identical 3.7kWh battery pack seen in its sibling, the 450X. Nevertheless, the electric motor of the Apex is rated at a whopping 7kW (9.3bhp). The scooter's claimed Intelligent Driver Control (IDC) range is a commendable 157 kilometres, owing to its unique regenerative braking system which works in tandem with a novel energy management algorithm christened 'Magic Twist'. According to Ather Energy, this innovative technology enables the rider to bring the scooter to a halt just by twisting the accelerator backwards. Moreover, it promises fluid and dependable operation regardless of the battery's state of charge.
In terms of performance, the Ather 450 Apex boasts of a superior Warp Plus riding mode that proffers faster acceleration in comparison to the standard Warp mode. Besides, it offers additional driving modes like Smart Eco, Eco, Ride, and Sport. The scooter can accelerate from 0 to 40km/h in an astonishing 2.9 seconds, with its top speed marked at 100km/h. On the contrary, the top speed of the 450X model is capped at 90 km/h, with the 0 – 40km/h time being 3.3 seconds.
Coming to the features, the 450 Apex is loaded with variety, including the Magic Twist, a 7.0-inch touchscreen, Bluetooth connectivity, built-in navigation, park assist, hill hold, auto indicator cut-off, and all-LED lighting. Although it follows a similar design pattern as the 450X, Ather offers it in a unique Indium Blue shade with vibrant Bright Orange accents on the wheels, emblems and frame.
On the competition front, the Ather 450 Apex is pitted against the TVS iQube, Ola S1 Pro, Bajaj Chetak, and the Simple One in the Indian market.
In related news, the Bengaluru-based electric vehicle manufacturer is also preparing for the launch of its next offering, Rizta, on April 6. Rizta is intended to be a larger, family-oriented scooter that promises 'comfort, ample size, and a whole lot more’. The upcoming vehicle is speculated not only to strengthen Ather's EV line-up in the country but also to resolve some issues witnessed in the 450X and the 450S models, primarily related to their compact dimensions.
