The renowned manufacturer of two-wheelers, Hero MotoCorp, is set to augment its premium offering via launching a brand-new high-end scooter - the Xoom 160. The company has built an impressive lineup of products, including the Karizma XMR, which has helped them to widen their footprint in the premium two-wheeler space. The latest addition to their portfolio, the Xoom 160, was introduced in India at the Bharat Mobility Show and is expected to hit the market within the next few weeks. This launch marks an exciting phase in the company’s journey, representing a milestone in technological and design innovation. Here’s a bit more about the upcoming model.
Propelling the Xoom 160 is a 156cc single-cylinder, liquid-cooled engine. This motor can deliver 13.7Nm of maximum torque at 6,500rpm and a peak power output of 14bhp at 8,000rpm. The scooter also incorporates i3S technology, which provides it with an idle stop and silent start function. Additionally, it has a weight of 141 kg when the fuel tank is full. These specifications were debuted at the 2024 Bharat Mobility Expo for the pre-production model. However, upon launch, these figures should stay relatively consistent for the commercial model.
On the design front, the Xoom 160 is distinguished by its split LED headlights, compact beak, and large windscreen, similar to an ADV-style scooter. Its long and broad side view, complemented by the central spine housing the fuel tank and the extended wheelbase, adds to its unified look. Moreover, the ample boot space is an added benefit. Like the Xoom 125R, the 160 variant also has 14-inch wheels that appear wider. It also features block-pattern tyres, suggesting it can handle soft-roading. The display model from the 2023 EICMA also included a top box, indicating that the machine is engineered for long trips. As for providing a smooth ride, it boasts a telescopic fork arrangement upfront and dual spring shocks at the rear.
When it comes to features, the Hero Xoom 160 will offer advanced functionalities such as keyless ignition, remote seat opening, LED lighting, and smart find. This feature lets the owner locate the scooter in a crowded parking area by a mere press of the keyfob button. While Hero hasn't confirmed if this model will come with GPS and phone connectivity, it's plausible that these features may be added, considering this is a brand-new scooter.
Before it could cross the boundaries of its domestic market, the Xoom 160, which has been priced competitively at Rs 1.30 lakh, is going to face stiff competition. Its key rivals in the segment include the Aprilia SXR 160 and the Yamaha Aerox 155. Despite this, Hero MotoCorp still expects it to make significant inroads in multiple global markets.
