Skoda, the renowned Czech automobile manufacturer, has unveiled the Explorer Edition of its popular Kushaq model. Currently under evaluation for launch in India, the Kushaq Explorer Edition incorporates several off-road inspired enhancements, particularly appealing to 4WD enthusiasts. The upcoming edition introduces a range of extra accessories, including off-road specific tyres and a functional roof rack. Despite being appreciated as a well-received midsize SUV, the Skoda Kushaq is not recognized as a specialized off-road vehicle. However, the new Explorer Edition seeks to redefine the Kushaq's image, introducing several upgrades that give it a distinct off-road ready appeal. Firstly, the SUV is equipped with Ultra Mile 44 all-terrain Bull off-road spec tyres for the front and rear. The update also includes a tow hook, bathed in an eye-catching orange hue, and attached to the underpart of the bumper. In addition, a visibly prominent roof rack, black alloy wheels and a horizontally mounted auxiliary light further enhance the vehicle's rugged appeal. However, Skoda assures its customers that these updates do not alter the SUV's mechanical specifications. Thus, while the Kushaq Explorer Edition may appear ready for the wilderness, it retains its familiar midsize SUV features. Skoda has also integrated several technological improvements into this new edition. These include a heads-up display, an enhanced reverse parking camera, and a 360-degree camera system. The car's exterior has been revamped with an optional matte green finish. Complementing this, the SUV includes orange highlights on the lower door trim, the front skid plate, the grille, and the bumper, heightening its visual appeal. In terms of performance, the SUV showcases two engine options. The 1.0L three-cylinder turbo petrol engine yields 109 bhp and 175 Nm of peak torque. Alternatively, the 1.5L four-cylinder petrol engine delivers 148 bhp and 250 Nm of torque. A six-speed manual transmission comes as standard, whereas a six-speed torque converter automatic or a seven-speed DSG can be ordered, according to the selected model. The Explorer Edition follows Skoda Kushaq's standard models in India, including the Onyx, Monte Carlo, Matte, Elegance, and Lava Blue Editions. Earlier, VW introduced the GT Edge Trail Edition of the Taigun. Price-wise in India, the Skoda Kushaq is set at Rs. 11.89 lakh for the base variant, stretching up to Rs. 20.49 lakh for the highest spec trim, ex-showroom. In the future, alongside the Explorer Edition of Kushaq, Skoda plans to venture into the compact SUV space and pure electric vehicle sector. Furthermore, a new compact SUV based on the localised MQB A0 IN platform will be built. This platform is already shared with the Slavia, Virtus, and Taigun.
