Targeting smaller SUVs such as the Hyundai Creta and Kia Seltos, Mahindra is primed to introduce the entry-level XUV700 petrol automatic MX variant. This move signals the manufacturer's aggressive bid for a larger market share in the compact SUV market.

Base model XUV700 equipped with the automatic gearbox has recently received its Type Approval Certificate from ARAI. The MX variant is currently available in manual transmission only, for both its petrol and diesel engine versions. The automatic gearbox is a feature exclusive to the upper-tier AX3, AX5, and AX7 models of XUV700 at present. Shipping for the five-seater SUV's updated variant is expected to commence in the following weeks. Setting a price point considered to be around Rs 15.80 lakh, the new MX AT variant continues Mahindra's competitive pricing strategy. Its existing XUV700 MX petrol already boasts a price tag of Rs 13.99 lakh. This approach will enable customers interested in the XUV700 petrol-automatic to secure a purchase at an approximately Rs 2.4 lakh discount, relative to the AX3 petrol-AT variant priced at Rs 18.19 lakh.

Standard features of the base-spec XUV700 include an 8.0-inch touchscreen infotainment system supported by Android Auto, four speakers, a 7.0-inch instrument cluster, tilt-adjustable steering and power windows among others. The vehicle's distinguishing feature that sets it apart from the high-spec models is its 17-inch steel rims shod with 235/65 R17 tyres. However, features offered on the AX3 trim are unfortunately absent in the new model. These include attributes such as an 8.0-inch digital driver display, wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay capabilities, additional speakers, LED DRLs and rear armrest with 60:40 split-folding rear seats.

The all-new XUV700 MX petrol-automatic variant's entry into the market is expected to disrupt sales of existing midsize SUVs. Possible contenders include the Hyundai Creta, Skoda Kushaq, Volkswagen Taigun, Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara, Honda Elevate and Toyota Hyryder.
