The 2025 Mahindra Thar.e serves as a gateway for the company's export strategies, distinct from the design resemblances of the Jeep Wrangler.
In Johannesburg, South Africa, at its Futurescape event last year, Mahindra showcased its remarkable forward-thinking designs. Of all the showpieces, the Thar.e, slated for launch in 2025, was the main head turner. A leaked online image of the production spec design patents was the basis for digital artist Pratyush Rout creating a render of the anticipated 2025 Mahindra Thar Electric.
This mammoth off-road SUV's towering presence is evident in its 300mm ground clearance, making it taller than the current 3-door Thar ICE. The machine will also be longer due to its standard 5-door design. However, what is mere impressive is Mahindra's grand leap in design language reflected in the Thar.e concept.
In comparison to the existing Thar, the Mahindra Thar Electric sports a radical design language. It eliminates round headlights, Wrangler-like flared wheel arches, and bonnet clips. Instead, it introduces a conventional bonnet adorned with oversized Mahindra lettering on the front. The muscle-flexing front quarter panel protrudes boldly, and features a unique squarish quad-LED DRL. Horizontal LED turn indicators positioned next to these headlights enhance the appeal.
The closed grill boasts a Thar.e badge, Mahindra Twin Peaks logo and three rectangular cutouts. Solid bumpers and body cladding further enhance its robust appeal. The Thar 5-Door reflected the trapezoidal wheel arches, which this model continues. The render's windshield angle leans back subtly, complemented by a darkened roof and pillars.
Contrasting the boxy side profile common to the previous Jeep Cherokee and Grand Cherokee models, this render adopts a rounder detailing. Some design components from the Thar EV concept carry over to this render, including exposed door hinges, pull-up style door handles, a kink in the front window line, and squarish ORVMs. It, however, features more realistic 5-spoke wheels.
In the past, Mahindra confronted some challenges due to the comparable designs of Thar and Jeep Wrangler. Likely, the design modification of Thar is a strategic move to bypass this issue. Alongside bypassing the similarities, it would pave the way for Mahindra to increase its global export propositions. The Thar new design would possibly replicate its charm that has won over Indian buyers, in global markets too.
The render of our 2025 Mahindra Thar Electric is ready to be exported. It incorporates the company’s newly introduced INGLO born-electric platform. The dual motor setup facilitates AWD, with a battery pack potentially ranging between 60-80 kWh. Projected to launch in 2025 or later, the price could approximately fall between Rs 25 to 30 lakhs.
