The Porsche Taycan, after its first facelift since production in 2019, has now emerged to be Porsche’s strongest road car yet. Unlike several other facelifted models that leave updates to mostly cosmetic changes, the improved Taycan has introduced numerous upgrades in electrical systems, thereby increasing its power, efficiency, and performance.
Talking of the powertrain and tech specifications, Porsche has kept details sparse, only divulging that each car variant is now quicker and better powered. Among the key improvements, the rear axle motor now churns up to an extra 109hp depending on the model. All the motors are equipped with the revised internals and are lighter in weight which enhances efficiency and power generation. In the top-rung Turbo S version, the Taycan’s power generation with launch control is ramped up to 952hp, a leap from the previous 761hp. With this change, the Taycan has ousted the 887hp 918 Spyder hypercar to become the most powerful Porsche ever. Correspondingly, Porsche's fastest-accelerating car now has a 0-100 kph time reduced from 2.8 seconds to 2.4 seconds.
The base rear-wheel drive model also sees a major upgrade in performance with an increase in acceleration from 0-100 kph in 4.5 seconds, up 0.6 seconds from its outgoing model. The model's power output is also boosted from 326hp to 483hp. Furthermore, the variants boasting the Sport Chrono package now feature a ‘push to pass’ button offering an additional 95hp temporary boost for up to 10 seconds at a stretch. Looking at the Taycan’s battery, range, and underpinnings, improvements are noted in the battery and range sector too, something the outgoing Taycan had previously struggled with. Revised cell chemistry and new batteries have pushed the gross capacity for the larger Performance Battery Plus from 93.4kWh to 105kWh. The 800V architecture will now be able to recuperate energy at up to 320kW, up by 50. The base models have all seen their battery upgraded to 89kWh, an increase from the previous 79.2kWh.
Porsche has ensured enhanced performance by introducing broader fast-charging capabilities – 10 to 80 percent charge is now achieved in as little as 18 minutes, down from 37 minutes – alongside improved energy regeneration while braking – it can now recuperate energy at speeds as high as 400kW, up 30 percent from before. Despite Porsche's reluctance to share official WLTP range figures for all models, they say it is now up to a maximum of 678km, an increase of 175 km or 35 percent. As for the chassis, all Taycan variants have been equipped as standard with adaptive air suspension and all-wheel drive models have the option of Porsche Active Ride suspension.
On aesthetics, there are minor tweaks like new LED headlamps with HD-Matrix designs and detailed optics, slightly modified bumper with revised air vents, newly introduced colours, aero-optimised wheel designs for all models, tyres designed to reduce rolling resistance, and two new leather-free interior upholstery options. While the Porsche Taycan is already being marketed for all its outgoing versions in India, it is expected that the facelifted model will be introduced soon.
