Following the successful launch of the EV6 in 2022, Kia now desires to broaden its EV offering further. The forthcoming EV9 is the flagship model in their electric SUV line and has been seen undergoing road tests in India, thereby fuelling launch anticipation. Similar to its predecessor, the EV6, the EV9 is set to reach Indian markets via the Completely Built-Up (CBU) route. Speculation puts the base trim's launch price at approximately Rs 80 lakh.
The imposing Kia EV9 promises to be a significant, commanding presence on the road. The SUV spans 5,015 mm in length, 1,980 mm in width, and 1,780 mm in height, and it boasts a wheelbase of 3,100 mm. The vehicle's imposing dimensions come designed to house spacious interiors and generous boot space. The overall impression of the EV9's design exudes boldness, characterized by sculpted panelling across the entire vehicle.
Key external features of the EV9 include brilliant cube LED headlamps equipped with Z-shaped Daylight Running Lights (DRLs), a closed-off grille, and an impressive front bumper. The side view showcases polygonal wheel arches, sturdy 21-inch alloy wheels, intense body cladding, practical roof rails, and door-mounted Outside Rear-View Mirrors (ORVMs) with integrated turn signals. At the back, the star map LED tail lamps are the clear standout feature, with the rear wiper cleverly hidden under the rear spoiler, preserving the neat silhouette.
Inside, the Kia EV9 exemplifies luxury with premium elements, including a three-zone climate control, heated and ventilated front and second-row seats, an automatic defog system, full-display electronic rear-view mirror, a heated steering wheel, regenerative braking paddle shifters, and a height-adjustable smart power tailgate.
The EV9’s roomy interior can be modified according to the needs of the driver and passengers, with 60:40 split second-row seats and 50:50 third row seats, both with headrests and able to be remotely folded. Multiple innovative storage spaces and USB charging ports for all passengers are other interior highlights. Tech features include a 12.3-inch touchscreen infotainment system with navigation, a 12.3-inch driver display screen, a 5.3-inch climate control screen, fingerprint recognition, and even over-the-air software updates.
There are three powertrain options available, to cater to different user needs. The base RWD model includes a 76.1 kWh battery that operates an electric motor with 215 hp, providing a range of approximately 370 km. The long-range model comes with a 99.8 kWh battery, powering a 201 hp motor and delivering an impressive range of approximately 489 km. A dual-motor variant offering 379 hp with a range of approximately 450 km is also an option.
Once launched, the Kia EV9 will support both fixed and portable charging, including fast charging, which allows users to power up to 248 km in just 15 minutes. With the fast charger, the battery level can go from 10% to 80% in only 24 minutes. The EV9 also comes with Vehicle-to-Load capability, which can power a range of auxiliary tools and equipment. The date of the official launch of the Kia EV9 in India is yet to be announced.
