In a grand celebration of its centenary, MG unveiled the Cyber GTS at the 2024 Goodwood Festival of Speed. This unveiling marked the world premiere of a concept that pays homage to MG's rich racing heritage while looking forward to an all-electric future. The Cyber GTS is essentially a coupe version of the MG Cyberster roadster, transformed into an electrifying new model. The concept car, according to MG, honors the 1968 MGC GTS Sebring—a racecar that clinched victory at the 12 Hours of Sebring in 1968 and remains the fastest-finishing MG factory car to date. In conjunction with the display at the MG booth, a functional prototype of the Cyber GTS will make a dramatic debut by speeding past this year's MG-themed central sculpture outside Goodwood House and ascending the famed Goodwood hill climb.
From a design perspective, the Cyber GTS takes several cues from the Cyberster production car. The front end is long and low, complemented by tail lamps at the rear that feature a Union Jack-inspired design alongside a lightbar element. The bumpers also draw similarities to those on the Cyberster. However, the most significant change is in the roofline. The Cyber GTS replaces the Cyberster’s soft top with a hardtop that extends to the vehicle's trailing edge, resembling a fastback. Though interior details are still under wraps, multiple market reports suggest that the Cyber GTS will likely be a 2+2 sportscar, as opposed to the two-seater Cyberster.
SAIC, the brand's parent company, has confirmed that the Cyber GTS concept will employ a rear-wheel-drive setup and an all-electric drivetrain. Yet, specific technical details remain undisclosed. The close relation between the Cyber GTS and the Cyberster models suggests that their technical specifications will be quite similar.
For context, the Cyberster offers both all-wheel drive (AWD) and rear-wheel drive (RWD) powertrain options. The RWD version boasts a top speed of 195 km/h, peak power of 335 bhp, and can accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in 5 seconds. The AWD model ups the ante with a top speed of 201 km/h, peak power of 503 bhp, and a 0-100 km/h time of just 3.2 seconds. Additionally, the RWD version offers a claimed range of 510 km per full charge, whereas the AWD version has a stated range of 444 km.
With these specifications, the MG Cyber GTS looks poised to compete directly with soon-to-be-launched electric sportscars like the Porsche 718 Cayman EV. Furthermore, it honors iconic models such as the MGB and MGC GT from the 1960s, offering a nostalgic yet forward-looking package.
Apart from the Cyber GTS, MG also revealed the EXE181 prototype at Goodwood. Mirroring the 1959 MG EX181 land speed record car, this sleek concept features an extraordinary aerodynamic coefficient of 0.181cd and can accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in under 1.9 seconds.
Other noteworthy announcements include the MG Cloud EV, spotted once again undergoing testing with heavy camouflage ahead of its Indian launch. Meanwhile, JSW MG Motor India reported a 9% decline in sales for June, although the ZS EV model achieved its highest-ever monthly sales.
Hyundai India has officially announced a price hike across its entire lineup, set to take effect from April 2025. The increase, which will be up to 3%, is being implemented due to rising input costs and fluctuating economic factors.
