Bajaj Auto Limited, a prominent Indian two-wheeler manufacturer, has announced the inauguration of its first manufacturing plant in Brazil. This strategic expansion is expected to significantly bolster the company's global footprint and meet rising demand in the burgeoning Brazilian market.
Located in the bustling city of Manaus, the new facility spans an impressive 9,600 square meters and houses cutting-edge manufacturing technology. This includes advanced engine assembly, vehicle assembly, and testing units. Initially, the plant will focus on producing 20,000 units per annum on a single shift. However, it also holds plans to expand this capacity to 50,000 units annually in the near future.
Situated at Av. do Turismo, nº 13.529 – Bairro Tarumã, the plant enjoys a strategic location with significant fiscal incentives from the State of Amazonas. Its proximity to robust supply chains and major transportation hubs ensures streamlined logistical operations, enhancing overall efficiency.
The Manaus plant is equipped with sophisticated, automated production lines and integrated quality control systems. Multiple conveyor and transfer systems ensure seamless connectivity between different manufacturing stages. Moreover, operations are managed using the Protheus ERP system, which integrates manufacturing, supply chain management, finance, and HR functions, ensuring smooth and efficient plant operations.
The opening ceremony was attended by the Governor of Amazonas, along with various dignitaries, dealers, and business partners. During his address, Rakesh Sharma, Executive Director of Bajaj Auto Ltd., expressed immense pride and optimism: “With the establishment of our own plant in Brazil, we have achieved a quantum shift in our local capability to fulfil demand. Our Dominar brand has received an outstanding reception since its launch 18 months ago. The new manufacturing capabilities will enable us to build a wider distribution network, introduce new products, and meet the growing expectations of our customers.”
Remarkably, the plant obtained ISO certification for its production processes shortly after its construction, which commenced in June 2023. Bajaj do Brasil has effectively woven local suppliers into its operational fabric, successfully sourcing key motorcycle parts and components from within Manaus. Initially, the facility will prioritize the production of Dominar models but aims to gradually introduce Pulsar models as part of its expansive product portfolio.
The reception of the Dominar series, comprising Dominar 400, Dominar 200 (rebranded Pulsar NS200), and Dominar 160 (rebranded Pulsar NS160), has been exceptionally positive in Brazil. This enthusiastic market response has fueled the swift establishment of the new plant and future growth plans.
This new plant reflects Bajaj Auto's commitment to expanding its global presence and customer base. With vehicles accessible in over 100 countries, this move aligns with the company’s strategic vision to diversify its manufacturing footprint and meet increasing international demand. The establishment of the Manaus plant not only strengthens Bajaj Auto's market position in Brazil but also underscores its ambitions to be a leading player on the global stage.
